They work, but ...   (1) In spite of claims of exercising all major muscle groups, they   may not exercise everything *you* want exercised.  The side delts seem   to be a common omission.  If you're serious, you'll need dumbbells at   least in addition to the machine.   (2) You need to consider carefully what the maximum resistance for each   exercise needs to be.  If you spend big bucks on a machine and outgrow   it in six months, you may be upset about it.  On some machines the   cable-driven exercises, because of the mechanical advantage effects   of pulleys, have only half the maximum weight.  This can quickly   become too little, especially on lat pulldowns or leg extensions.   (3) Exercising at home is not for everyone.  No machine works if you   don't use it.   (4) By do-it-all they are saying you get weight training for the   various muscle groups, not aerobic training (which you want to have   for your cardiovascular system, and to increase the fat-burning   capabilities of your muscles.)  This could make you muscular, fat   and heart-attack-prone.
